Every nonprofit is exposed to risk. Risk often occurs throughout a nonprofit's routine operations and could result in a claim or lawsuit. Common scenarios that expose nonprofits to risk include:

  • Hosting fundraisers and special events.
  • Administering employment practices.
  • Recruiting and supervising volunteers.
  • Transporting clients to and from services.
  • Working with vulnerable populations such as the elderly and youth.
  • Collaborating with other organizations.

One company dedicated to helping nonprofits reduce their exposure to risk is Charity First which provides a complimentary extensive online library of safety articles, which can be found in their "Risk Management Resource" section of their website.
